Warik Wheatley was born in Sydney, Australia, studied in London, Paris and Rome and has exhibited his paintings in those cities. His master was the late Cav. Antonius Datillo-Rubbo of Florence, Italy. Warik lives in NYC.
Sir Norman Hartnell, M.V.O. (courturier to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II) introduced his work to La Comtesse d’Ortez of London Vogue and M. Michele de Brunhoff, art director of Paris Vogue. Michele de Brunhoff introduced Warik to Christian Dior.
Warik designed in Paris for Christian Dior and Jacques Griffe and designed the color cover of Christian Dior’s biography, “Speaking of Fashion,” also “Royal Performance” for Hutchinson (London). In New York he designed for and was assistant to Oleg Cassini.
His first oil, “The Birth of Fashion” was painted in 1958. In 1961 Warik won first place with high honors in the United Scenic Artists Costume Designers of America Award.
He worked in Montreal, Canada for Canadian TV as designer for Haute Couture, ballet, classical drama, musicals, etc.
