Maurice Meyer American Artist was born in 1936 in Memphis, Tennessee. He started training in art at the your age of 10. After his University studies and the Air Force he moved to California where he now lives with his wife and family. It was at that time that he began working on seascapes and landscape paintings inspired by the California coastline. Using techniques he has mastered over 50 years of experience, painting with tiny brushes and strokes, and employing direct and indirect light to create a natural luminescence that brings startling reality to the subjects he paints.Meyer is often referred to by critics and art dealers as the Rembrandt of seascapes because after viewing Rembrandts at the NY Metropolitan Museum in New York City he was greatly influenced by the Master’s use of highlighting contrasted by dark masses of complimentary lines. He was also influenced by works of JMW Turner and the early American artists Thomas Cole, Thomas Moran and Albert Bierstadt. Today he is recognized as one of the country’s leading artists working in that renowned Hudson River School pioneered by Cole, Durand, Bierstadt and others.
