Portrait of Elizabeth Stanhope (née Butler), Countess of Chesterfield (1640-65), 2nd wife of Philip Stanhope. She died of ‘spotted fever’ in 1665. Her husband also contracted the disease, but recovered. By Thomas Worlidge (1700 – 1766), ‘the English Rembrandt’ and a pupil of Alessandro Maria Grimaldi, whose daughter Arabella he married.
